Source Fortune Eupatorium Herb is the dried aerial part of Eupatorium fortunei Turcz. (Fam, Compositae).

Producing Areas Jiangsu, suburbs of Shanghai city and Tianjin city, Hebei, Shandong, Anhui, Shaanxi and Zhejiang, etc.

Action

  • Eliminates dampness from the middle jiao
    For dampness-retention syndrome involving the spleen and stomach with feeling of fullness and oppression in the chest and abdomen, poor appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and feeling of sweetness and greasiness in the mouth.
  • Clears away summer-heat
    For affection of exogenous summer-heat and dampness with chilliness, fever, fullness in the head and feeling of oppression in the chest.

Usage and Dosage
The fresh is for clearing away summer-heat and removing turbidity. 5 – 10g is decocted for oral use. The amount of the fresh is doubled.

Notes Use with caution in the case with dryness of the blood due to yin-deficiency and deficiency of qi.

Keep in a cool, dry place.

Similarities
For dampness-retention syndrome involving the spleen, weak stomach with no feelings of hunger and the early stages of damp febrile diseases.
Differences
Huoxiang is pungent-warm and can relieve exterior syndrome, harmonise the middle energiserto stop vomiting, also ease dampness retention in the middle energiser and regulate qi to stop vomiting. Peilan cannot relieve exterior syndrome. It is used for dampness-heat in the spleen and stomach with high salivation and foul breath.
