Source Twotoothed Achyranthes Root is the dried root of Achyranthes bidentata Bl (Fam. Amaranthaceae)

Producing Areas Achyranthes bidentata Bl. is mainly produced in parts of China such as Henan; Cyathula officinalis Kuan is mainly produced in Sichuan, Yunnan and Guizhou.

ACTION

  • Replenishes the liver and the kidney
    Reduces soreness of lumbar and knee joints with weaknesses in the legs. Treats dizziness due to hyperactivity of the liver.

  • Treats amenorrhea with mass formation in the abdomen
  • Treats blood stasis and stimulate menstrual discharge

Usage and Dosage
Used as crude herb to promote blood flow and regulate menstruation, induces diuresis and treat stranguria; used with wine: tonifies liver and kidneys as well as strengthens muscles and bones.
10-15 g is used in decoction for oral use. Pound the herb for external use.

Contraindicated for pregnant women and in cases of heavy menstruation.



Storage
The herb turns soft easily. It is moist but loses its oil when exposed to high temperatures. Keep in a cool dry place and properly sealed.

Professional Tips
The dried root of Cyathula officinale Kuan from the same family is cylindrical, thick, 0.5-3 cm in diameter; the surface is brown yellow or grey brown in colour. The mass is tenacious and difficult to break; the broken surface is yellow white or brown yellow in colour with many light yellow dots which form 3-8 rounds of concentric circles. It is light in nature. The flavour is sweet and slightly bitter.

It should be meaty, have long roots and a thin skin. It should be yellowish white in colour.
