Producing Areas Zhejiang, Guangdong, Fujian, Jiangsu and Shandong, etc.

Properties Salty, Astringent and War.

Channels Spleen, Kidne.

ACTION

  • Astringes and stops bleeding
    Treats hematemesis, hemoptysis, hematuria, metrorrhagia and menorrhagia. Can be used externally to stop traumatic bleeding.
  • Relieves emission and leukorrhagia
    Relieves nocturnal emission and leukorrhagia attributed to asthenia-syndromes.
  • Possesses antacid and analgesic effects
    Treats peptic ulcer, stomachache with acid regurgitation and relieves goitre.
  • Reduces exudation and promotes healing
    Treats skin pyogenic infection, unhealed lesion and eczema.

Usage and Dosage
The crude one is used to inhibit acid and arrest pain, eliminate dampness and promote healing. 5–10 g is used in decoction for oral use. Reduce the amount when powder form is used.

Notes
Used with caution for patients suffering from heat due to the deficiency yin.
