Action

  • Tonifies the liver and kidney

    For constipation andbi-pain due to wind-dampness, pain of waist and knees.

Usage and Dosage
10 – 30g is used in decoction, or in pills or powder. It should be stir-baked for oral use.

Notes Contraindicated in patient with loose stools due to deficiency of the spleen.


It is oval in shape, with one slightly rounded end and the other slightly pointed, 2 – 4mm long, 1 – 2mm wide, and about 1mm thick. Its surface is black, smooth with tiny wart-shaped bulges under the magnifier. The edge is smooth. There is a brown spot-shaped umbilical at the pointed end. The broken surface is white, oily, with thin skin and two cotyledons. The flavour is sweet, with fragrance of oil.

Storage
Keep in a dry, well-ventilated and cool place. Protect it from moths and deterioration.

Description of Quality Herb
Good Heizhima should be big and full-grained in size, black in colour, without deteriorated oil smell and impurity.

Sesame and Wood Ear Fungus Tea

Effects
This drink cools the blood and prevents excessive bleeding. It also relaxes the bowels, and alleviates constipation. It helps to relieve blood-deficiency syndromes and has a tonifying effect for the elderly.

Ingredients
Black fungus (wood ear fungus) 60g, black sesame 15g.

Preparation
1.Place half of the wood ear fungus in a heated pan and stir-fry until it darkens to a deep black in colour and has a slightly scorched odour. Remove from the pan and place in a bowl to cool.
2.Heat the pan again and stir-fry the black sesame.
3.When fragrant, add approximately 1500ml of water and both batches of fresh and fried wood ear fungus. Boil the mixture for 30 minutes.
4.Strain out the dregs and serve.

Black Sesame and Almond Congee

Effects
Nourishes the liver and kidneys, moisturises the digestive system and alleviates constipation, alleviates thirst and dry cough. It is particularly beneficial to the health of middle-aged and elderly patients who are suffering from habitual constipation.

Ingredients
Black sesame 150g, almonds 100g, Japonica rice 150g, sugar to taste.

Preparation
1.Rinse the black sesame, almonds and japonica rice, and soak in fresh water until swollen.
2.Place all the above three ingredients together in a bowl, and grind to paste.
3.Place the paste in a pot with an adequate amount of water, and bring to a rolling boil then simmer to the consistency of congee over a low fire.
4.Add sugar, simmer for a short while more and stir well before serving.
