Source Dried Ginger Rhizome is the rhizome of Zingiber officinale (Wilid) Rose., (Fam. Zingiberaceae.)

Producing Areas Sichuan, Guizhou, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hubei and Fujian, etc.

Channels Spleen, Stomach, Kidney, Heart, Lung

ACTION

  • Dispels cold and warms the middle jiao (or middle-energiser)
    For deficiency-cold of the middle jiao with cold pain in the lower abdomen, and diarrhoea of cold type, vomiting.
  • Recuperates the depleted yang and dredges the channels
    For yang-exhaustion syndrome.
  • Warms the lung and resolves phlegm
    For cold accumulation in the lung with cough and dyspnea, coldness in the body and profuse thin sputum.
  • Arrests bleeding due to cold syndrome
    Warms the meridians to treat hemorrhage of deficient cold syndrome, including hematemesis, epistaxis, hematochezia, metrorrhagia and metrostaxis with symptoms of cold palms and sores, and sallow complexion.

Usage and Dosage
3-10 g is used in decoction for oral use, or in pills or powder

Note
Contraindicated for the patient with heat due to yin-deficiency and excessive blood-heat.


Storage
Keep in a dry place and protect from moths.

The good one is compact, strongly aromatic, with yellowish and powdery core.
